Vision

Nurturing a love of mathematics through challenging, thought provoking tasks and exciting, engaging teaching strategies.

At Reasoning Club we want children to love maths and for teachers to love teaching it. Our tasks allow children to explore maths - using what they know and discussion to deepen their understanding.

Reasoning Clubs were developed to provide schools with a way of ensuring enough challenge for greater depth pupils. The tasks force children to apply what they know in new situations; they learn through discussion, making mistakes and exploring problem solving strategies. Children are not told what to do, and have to work it out for themselves using the information provided. They learn to read the question and choose the best strategy for the task. This develops children’s confidence to work independently, make decisions and reason why a particular strategy is better than another.

Joy of Maths CPD allows teachers to observe engaging and exciting teaching strategies and tasks with their pupils. Armed with a counting hoop, counting stick and frogs and lions picture cards, our training focusses on the whole range of topics within the primary curriculum and caters for all year groups. Our tasks deepen understanding in maths by giving children new experiences and giving them the tools and understanding to explain, ‘why’.
